Why is Sheffield so unique?

As Sheffield continues to be one of the greenest cities in the country, locals pride themselves on being sustainably conscious to reduce the city’s impact on climate change. From recycling to renewable energy production, Sheffield is already taking big steps towards implementing strategies to improve biodiversity and quality of life.

Bloomin Marvellous is coming to Sheffield City Centre for a 2 day market event taking place on 7th and 8th May 2022. The event covers all things marvellous about our gardens and outside home habitats. From things to grow and eat, indoors and out, beautiful plants and flowers and fauna of all varieties. Organisations such as Heeley City Farm and Green City Action are both prime examples of connecting people to nature to boost mental wellbeing and enhance the biodiversity of the city.

Expanding our green community

With the City in full bloom ahead of the summer season, Bloomin Marvellous is an event where people from all ages can come and interact and contribute towards the green footprint the City is making for itself. The Green Village will be a buzzing focal point of the event with Heeley City Farm will have a selection of cakes, honey, jam and plants along with handmade crafts from the staff and volunteers at the farm. There will be various free activities to get involved with as well as information about their ongoing projects and events.

The Sheffield Wheat Experiment will be a part of this year’s Green Village, an organisation which has evolved since lockdown. You’ll be able to find out more information about wheat farming and the global food system as well as discovering ways to utilise wheat.

An extension of the events Green Village will have presentations from Green City Action, who run a community allotment and toolbank. Their aim is to provide a safe, outdoor growing space for people who do not have the amenities to grow produce in their own home.

There is an endless list of communities and organisations contributing towards a more sustainable future within Sheffield. Bloomin Marvellous will be a fantastic showcase of everything you need to know about what’s going on and how to get involved.
